The motor in my Bay Window is running a bit rough. The van has just been through a restoration - all but the engine has been revamped.
Low and behold the engine is causing me problems! During the resto i left the engine untouched - but i think the problem existed before i took it out.
It idle's fine but when you accelerate it doesn't pick up as it should.
I first thought it might be missing on one cylinder - so i changed everything (coil, plugs, leads, condensor, points, rotor and cap). but the problems remains. I checked the compression and all cylinders were ok...
So i took the engine out and changed all the gaskets - the problem remains...
Could it be the carb??
What do i do now??
I was told that the engine may have come from a Variant as it has no engine number?? Does this affect things in any way??
Any ideas???
Cheers
Chris

might be ur dizzy mate, it may not be advancing enough when you boot it?? cud try settin the timing, or if you take the points out and check under the plate they sit on for wear e.t.c. if its an 009 dizzy there might be summut up with the springs. either that or carb id think. good luck mate

It is not the dissy or the timing as have been over them when i was at his the other week.... I think it is a carb problem .... It is as if it has an air leak in it that is why i told him to change the gasket as did not look like he had any.... would come and help but am a couple of thousand miles away at the moment..
