Should have posted last night but couldnt be r'sd...lol
So for all you that were looking and poking in my engine bay last night, it was the throttle positioner.
Quote,
The throttle positioner comes into play in deceleration when the vehicle is over running on the engine. That is, the driver has taken his foot off the accelerator pedal, but the car continues to move and the engine to suck in fuel. Instead of the engine driving the car, the motion of the car is turning the engine. Since the throttle is closed, the air flow is inadequate. The mixture delivered to the cylinders is out of balance with the engine rpm. Combustion is not complete.
The purpose of the throttle positioner is to keep the throttle open in deceleration long enough to prevent emission of unburned rich fuel mixture into the atmosphere. With the throttle partly open, the engine continues to take in an air-fuel mixture that is still combustible even in deceleration. Besides reducing the emission of hydrocarbons from the tail pipe, the throttle positioner also prevents backfiring into the muffler
End quote....
Live and learn..... ;D

My nissan has a similar thing but its like a plunger that the throttle arm rests against.

i have no freekin idea if its a US thing only...lol...probably to help the green nazi's.....
I know there is a vac leak ( thanks for sucking on it dude ) but I think it might be kinda working because on the way I made a point of doing some engine braking down the hills on the way and she didnt cough and splutter as I was expecting her to and judging by the way she arrived here in the UK I'm sure she would. The only thing I did was to open the gap in the points to let her run...no tuning or anything....
Also, when you come to a stop, the idle is high for a few seconds then drops down again. Im sure a new piece of pipe and a small adjustment will have this working as it should...
Next week, will let you all diagnose the steering issue we have... Check next post!
