OK, quick run down so far...
Replaced the completely shot ball joints with new and steering went scary tight. Fighting it in a straight line and snaking. People behind must think Im drunk.
Checked it over and found 1 tie rod end had minimal play so decided to replace all 4 just to be safe. At same time, found steering box had 2 tight spots. Again thought it would be best to fit new instead of trying to adjust worn 40 yera old ish piece of kit...
So, now...
Still really tight and fighting it! If you jack up the front and then drop her down, front end stays high until you bounce on her then she goes down. Goes down and stays down. Only problem now is the only suspension travel on the front seems to be the air in the tyres! Stiff as a 16yr old watching a porno!
I know I need to strip down the front end again to get this sorted but with the weather on the change and her being outside, I need a small garage space to borrow for a day or so to strip down and diagnose.
Was really enjoying working on her and thought that by replacing virtually everything on the front end would cure the problem...not! Now just want to get this sorted so we can at least drive her safely and move on to the engine and transmission issues...
Anyone offer any help or dry space? A few people have said that this is perfectly normal and that it will loosen up after a few hundred miles. I dont think its safe to drive that far!
Would rather strip down again (EEK!) and work through it to see where its really getting stuck.
Now, wheres that bottle of wine!
